“Demonstrators took to the Capitol Monday to push back against what they see as dangerous changes to education policy – ending a weekend-long trek on foot from Kansas City to Topeka.

“More than 100 people massed inside the building to condemn the actions of Gov. Sam Brownback and lawmakers after the governor signed a bill into law last week during a private ceremony replacing the state’s school funding formula with a block grant system.

“’We also see that our Legislature is not heeding our concerns. The block grant bill was recently passed despite being opposed by numerous school boards, superintendents, teachers and parents. We find the fact that it was signed in a closed-door ceremony quite telling,’ said Judith Deedy, director of Game On Kansas, the group that organized the rally.”
