Action Alert on Supreme Court Justice Appointment Process

So, this week we’ve got a school bond bill, a tax credit scholarship expansion bill, a school district consolidation bill, a bill to make it easier to criminally prosecute teachers, and now a Constitutional Amendment to change how Supreme Court justices are selected, which will be heard in the House tomorrow.

Contact your legislators and urge them to vote NO on HCR 5005.

This is an assault on school funding and our independent judiciary. Our courts need to be independent from the other two legislative branches. Our government is established to have two branches that respond to political and popular opinions, and one that acts as a check on the other two whose job it is to make sure that the Constitution is followed, even when the majority may choose to ignore it. The current merit selection procedure places independent and qualified Justices on the Supreme Court.
