Senate forwards judicial impeachment bill

ACTION ALERT: The Senate has given approval to forward a bill to expand grounds for impeaching justices to include, among other things, “attempting to subvert fundamental laws and introduce arbitrary power; attempting to usurp the power of the legislative or executive branch of government; exhibiting discourteous conduct toward litigants, jurors, witnesses, lawyers or others with whom the justice or judge deals in an official capacity.” The final vote will be held tomorrow morning. Please contact your Senator and urge him or her to vote NO on SB 439.
We oppose this bill as a form of retaliation for school funding decisions, which some legislators have claimed usurps the legislature’s authority over appropriations.

UPDATE: This bill passed the Senate. It had not been taken up by the House prior to the legislature’s spring break.
