Editorial: Don’t veto tax bill

“Since Brownback took office, our unemployment rank has dropped from ninth to 19th. Kansas’ job growth has consistently been worse than other states in the region (we ranked 46th in the country between February 2015 and February 2016). We face a $310 million budget shortfall this year and a $500 million shortfall next year. We’ve burnt through our reserves because we constantly spend more money than we take in (this is what’s meant by the words ‘structural imbalance’). The LLC exemption has cost hundreds of millions of dollars and hasn’t generated anything like the hiring frenzy Brownback predicted. It’s also grossly unfair – why should business owners pay less in taxes than their lowest-paid employees?”
