Budget cuts are not figments of our imagination but are real consequences of decisions made in Topeka.

From the 2009-2010 through the 2011-2012 school years, there were reductions to such things as field trip and textbook budgets as well as the elimination of elementary teaching positions and a school psychologist position.
The cuts have meant increased class sizes, an increased work load for other teachers and psychologists and a deterioration of texts being used.
Board of Education member Carol Sue Stayrook-Hobbs said few if any people lost their jobs when cuts were made. As people vacated positions, they were not refilled. Also, people were reassigned when their positions were eliminated.
“In my opinion we’re not providing all the opportunities I would like to see available to our students,” Stayrook-Hobbs said.
