In Holton teachers and parents voiced their displeasure over recent education cuts, while Governor Brownback stuck to his talking point that there are no cuts; “the increase just isn’t as big”. We note part of the increase was court-ordered and was overdue. We also note that he took credit for the increased funding and dubbed himself the “Education Governor” while campaigning. Now that he’s been re-elected, here come the cuts to education we predicted two years ago.
“Dressed in red, holding signs of disapproval, protesters raised their hands for public education as Governor Brownback walked into Penny’s Coffee Shop in Downtown Holton.
“’We’re not happy. You know the courts have ruled that funding is inadequate and then to cut it even more is. I don’t understand how that can continue to happen,’ said Katie Morris, an art teacher.”
