While I was in Topeka today for my regular board meeting, the legislature was in action. Discussions included removing money from KSDE, Tobacco money from Children’s Cabinet, KSDOT money, Board of Regents money, etc. and transferring it all to the State General Fund. In addition they were working on making schools spend down their reserves, more scholarships (vouchers) for private, parochial & home schools, controlling what districts can include in bond issues, making districts bid all services and products used through the state, etc. etc. I think they’ve proved to us how well they manage money so that scares me to death and I also thought we were a local control state. This session cannot end soon enough. Every day brings even more damage to our students & schools.
