“On Monday, the Kansas Legislature had no choice but to hear a different point of view – and that’s because at least for a day, the people of Kansas remembered that this is their government – and that they have the right to lobby, assemble and tell the people that serve them to start doing a better job.
“To see so many people take the time and effort to speak up for the interests of ordinary Kansans is encouraging. Such events can make a difference, demonstrate to others that the politial process isn’t entirely hopeless and remind the Kansas Legislature of whom they serve.
“Yet, for Kansans to truly drown out the voices of greed and misinformation, those raised voices must be sustained. The long silence and apathy of Kansans is what has given rise to the voices who are anything but apathetic – the special interest groups who see government as a tool to achieve their ends.”
