March tax revenue $8.5 million below estimate

“The state of Kansas fell $8.5 million short of the March tax revenue projection in wake of a shortfall of more than $50 million in February that compelled Gov. Sam Brownback to impose an emergency 3 percent cut to public universities, officials said Friday…

“The Brownback administration’s revenue report for March included an alternative approach to counting revenue, but that tally was still $2 million short of the projection. If revenue from an insurance fee is included in the annual total, the state would be $81 million short of the fiscal year target…

“The state government might have to resort to delaying for one month the June allocation of state aid to public school districts, Hensley said. The maneuver permits resolution of the current certificate and allows issuance of a new certificate in the next fiscal year, he said.”
