Senate passes bill requiring teachers to vote every 3 years to retain union

The bill to require teachers to vote every three years to retain their union passed on emergency final action this afternoon after it was forwarded earlier today.

“Sen. Jeff Longbine, R-Emporia, said no teachers or school board members approached lawmakers in committee to say the measure was needed. He expressed concern the Legislature is reneging on a deal reached last year between representatives from school districts and teachers on changes to how negotiations are handled between the groups. Lawmakers approved the deal.”
