Gov. Kelly continues to work to stabilize Kansas’ revenue – Ask your legislators to do the same

We’ve been there, done that with drastic and irresponsible tax cuts. Our public schools suffered from inadequate funding for 10 years and are just beginning to get back on level footing. We support Gov. Kelly’s rejection of the rushed piecemeal tax bill and agree with her that Kansas needs a thoughtful, big-picture vision for tax reform, starting with a study to know what the real costs would be – BEFORE enacting such legislation.

Far-right legislative leadership is determined to cut taxes for businesses – so determined that they rushed through a second tax bill after Gov. Kelly vetoed the first one (https://bit.ly/2VOZVVF). Now that the Governor has vetoed the second bill, some expect a veto override attempt when the legislature returns May 29 for the ceremonial last day, or Sine Die.

Here are the Blue Valley-area legislators who voted NO on HB 2033 the first time. Email your legislators to THANK them, and ask them to vote NO again if the legislature does attempt a veto override:

Rep. David Benson

Rep. Cindy Holscher

Rep. Brett Parker

Here are the Blue Valley-area legislators who voted YES on HB 2033 the first time. If yours is on this list, email to ask them to vote NO if the legislature attempts a veto override. You can cite reasons given by Gov. Kelly in her press release; ask them to support thoughtful, comprehensive tax reform instead of rushed, piecemeal tax breaks like the ones that got us into trouble in the Brownback years. Ask them what budget cuts they want to make to compensate for tax breaks for corporations. If your legislator voted YES on CCR H Sub SB 16 – to add the inflation adjustment to school funding – but then voted to cut revenue by passing HB 2033 – ask them how they think that inflation adjustment should be funded.
