Contact your Representative and your Senator NOW and urge them to sustain the governor’s veto of SB 4 which would eliminate the 3-day grace period for the arrival of ballots post-marked by election day. Many parents of K-12 students also have college students and know how much postal service delays have impacted the ability of our students and others to vote. It’s important to affirm the commitment of our youngest voters to have their votes counted. Eliminating the 3-day grace period also imposes a poll tax by forcing voters to pay for express mail/Fed Ex/UPS in order to ensure their votes arrive in time. There is no evidence that the 3-day grace period interferes with the integrity of elections, but there is plenty of evidence that eliminating the 3-day grace period would invalidate ballots legally cast on or before election day.
