Please thank Rep. Roeser if you live in the Manhattan area. Although we lost the vote it’s important to recognize legislators who stand up to pressure from leadership and do the right thing.
“Roeser said in an interview with The Mercury that she got a lot of pressure from fellow Republicans and some Democrats over the last few weeks but she feels she did her research, listening to testimonies, reading and taking “a ton” of meetings.
“‘I couldn’t even tell you how many there were and how much input I got, but there were so much,’ she said.
“She said she also got calls, letters and emails from consituents.
“‘One one argument against judicial elections was that Our Supreme Court was never meant to be partisan,’ Roeser said. ‘Our judicial branch was meant to be separated from the legislative and executive branches, and I felt pretty compelled by that.’”
