We are still carefully watching the federal education budget and are glad to see public outcry seems to be having some effect. Please continue to urge our Congressional delegation to fight cuts. Here’s some additional information.
“Lieberman summarizes the result: ‘Key U.S. senators from both parties on Thursday decisively rejected virtually all the Trump administration’s proposals to slash K-12 investments—and pushed back against its efforts to shrink the Department of Education and move its functions to other agencies.”
“However, nothing should be taken for granted when it comes to the federal budget negotiations that will take place between now and September 30, the end of the FY 2025 budget year. Congress will return from its August break to negotiate the new federal budget for Fiscal Year 2026, which begins on October 1st. Nobody expects September’s budget negotiations to go smoothly, and if negotiations collapse, there could be a federal government shutdown…
“Negotiating a strong federal education budget for next year will not be easy for Congress. But there has been encouraging news in recent weeks. First, it appears that a public outcry can make a difference. On July 25, the administration restored all of the $6.8 billion that it had tried to impound on July 1.”
