“Now, some will say the district is receiving more money today than beforeā¦.and that is accurate. Below are the raw numbers for you ‘connoisseurs of data’. There is no disputing that we are receiving more money than we did in 2009. But out of fairness, one must compare the number of students enrolled, receiving at-risk services, receiving special education support, being transported, etc. and then compare spending per student. If we were keeping up with inflation, the district would be receiving $8,783 per student for operational expenses. In reality, the district is receiving $7,470 per student, down $388 from 2009. The path we are on is unsustainable, yet we are optimistic that those making decisions in Topeka will take the time to review this type of data (no spinning, minus the ideology, just the facts) and look each child in the eye and say, ‘You are worth the investment’.”
