Merrick email urges donations for ALEC conference

For a mere $5,000 to $100,000 you can help House Speaker Ray Merrick spread corporate tax credit “scholarships” and other harmful ALEC education policy to legislatures throughout the country. Here’s text from an email that was forwarded to us:

Dear [ ],
ALEC is hosting the 42nd Annual Meeting in San Diego, California on July 22-24, 2015. As a result of the 2014 elections, free-market legislators now hold 68 state chambers across the U.S. Nearly 2,000 attendees, legislators and policy experts, will be at the Annual Meeting in San Diego, as ALEC plays an important role in educating legislators on limited government and free market solutions as they apply to state governments.
Be a part of the solution by sponsoring ALEC’s 2015 Annual Meeting. I have agreed to serve on the ALEC Host Committee and need your help to reach our goal. A sponsorship is an excellent opportunity to educate our members on your platform, both during the conference and in the months leading up.
Help us make this a memorable experience and productive meeting by considering sponsorship. We have participation levels from $5,000 to $100,000 to meet every budget. Attached are the sponsorship forms with all details. Corporate, PAC and personal contributions are accepted and only a limited number of sponsorships are available.
ALEC is the one forum where you can address policy makers from all 50 states in one event.
We are happy to visit about this in detail. Please contact 512-476-4403 for information or to schedule time to visit about sponsorship. The ALEC Executive Committee–Representative Phil King (TX), Senator Leah Vukmir (WI), Senator Jim Buck (IN) and President Wayne Niederhauser (UT) and legislators from across the country—look forward to seeing you in San Diego, CA for a great Annual Meeting.
Thank you,
Representative Ray Merick [sic], District 27

Note: a subsequent email apologized for misspelling Rep. Merrick’s last name. The emails were sent by a professional fundraiser.
