“The Board of Education met Monday to discuss eliminating the job of Kim Angelo, one of two band instructors at the district’s middle school.
“Students said they adore Angelo, a third-year teacher, and would hate to see her go anywhere. They came to the meeting to show their support in hopes of saving her job.
“In a letter to parents, the superintendent said the governor’s block grant funding will have a significant negative impact on current and future school funding in Tonganoxie.
“The district said the block grant funding will lead to a $212,000 budget shortfall. The district has already shortened the school year by two days to save money.
“In addition to eliminating Angelo’s position, the board also voted to reduce the number of paraprofessionals, eliminate ninth-grade sports and increase fees for kindergarten and technology.”
