The Kansas Senate has now passed SB 142 (the House passed it earlier today) allowing KSDE to waive minimum hours requirements for school districts in case of a public emergency. The bill passed with 4 no votes by Senators Olson (District 23 Olathe), Pyle (District 1 Hiawatha), Suellentrop (District 27 Wichita), and Thompson (Mary Pilcher-Cook’s replacement in District 10, district covers parts of Bonner Spring, Merriam, Overland Park and Shawnee and all of Lake Quivira).
Senators Alley (District 32 Winfield), Hardy (District 24 Salina), Hilderbrand (District 13, Galena), Masterson (District 16 Andover) and Tyson (District 12 Parker) were “Present or Passing.”
