Backpack Full of Cash returns to KCK 3/29!

Join us Saturday, March 29th 12-3:30 at the West Wyandotte Branch Public Library Auditorium for an encore presentation of Backpack Full of Cash. RSVP with the QR code or by emailing info@voterrightsnetwork.org. The event will include a screening of the documentary Backpack Full of Cash, a refreshment break and panel discussion.

The documentary “Backpack Full of Cash” explores the growing push toward funding private schools and the resulting impact on America’s most vulnerable children. It exposes the world of corporate-driven, so-called “education reform,” where public education — starved of resources — hangs in the balance. It is a cautionary tale about how privatization and funding cuts in cities like Philadelphia, have had a devastating impact on public schools.

The film also showcases a model for improving schools. It profiles a well-resourced public school system in Union City, New Jersey, where low-income kids are getting a high-quality education without charters or vouchers. “Backpack” builds a case for public education as a basic civil right.

After the screening, we bring the potential impacts of vouchers to Kansas, where we see similar moves toward funding private schools at the expense of public education.
