State Board of Education denies funding for Public Education Partnership

The Kansas State Board of Education just voted 5-5 to deny funding a program that, since 2011, has spread the word to Kansas families about summer meals provided by their local school districts. That $20,000 of our federal tax dollars will now go to other states. There are 10 members of the state board and no matter how many are present, 6 votes are required for an item to pass.

Elections have consequences. State Board of Education members Dennis Hershberger, Danny Zeck, Michelle Dombrosky, Connie O’Brien and Debby Potter voted against funding to provide information about summer lunch programs in local school districts. If they “represent” you, please let them know how disappointed you are about this vote.
