“Public dollars. Private schools. What’s the impact? Programs like vouchers and Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) direct public tax dollars toward private education. While these programs are often discussed in terms of “school choice” or “education freedom,” it’s also important to consider the funding tradeoff for public schools.

When public dollars are directed to private institutions, fewer resources are available for the students who remain in public schools. These programs also raise questions about public accountability and the impact on public education.

Understanding where education dollars go—and how those decisions affect public schools—matters.”
