“FACT CHECK FRIDAY: CLASSROOM FUNDING GAINS CAN’T KEEP UP

Kansas districts face a $440.4 million special education funding shortfall in FY 2026.

Meanwhile, flexible classroom operating aid has grown by just $116.5 million since FY 2009.

That’s a shortfall nearly 3.8× larger than classroom funding gains.

Kansas districts have received some increases in classroom operating aid since 2009, but those gains are overwhelmed by the growing special education funding shortfall. The state’s failure to fund special education effectively wipes out classroom funding progress.”
