We were among the 37 organizations and individuals providing testimony against HB 2550 (an Education Savings Account aka voucher bill) in the House K-12 Education Budget Committee. There were four proponents, the usual suspects – Kansas Policy Institute, Americans for Prosperity, Americans for Prosperity-Kansas and a representative from Ed Choice who joined the Web Ex from out of state. Our opposition is based on data and principles. You can read our testimony below and you can watch the video of the hearing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o16Km8Jiup8 and view submitted testimony here: http://www.kslegislature.org/…/committee_testimony/…. Private Schools Acknowledge They Can and Do “Transition” Out Low-performing Students

In it, a private school representative acknowledged that they can and sometimes do transition kids out because they aren’t performing academically. We continue to believe that private schools should not receive public tax dollars if they are not required to accept all children and not required to keep the students they accept. They have a hearing at 3:30 today (Monday). We did not submit formal testimony but emailed the following comments to committee members. We’re attaching committee member email addresses and a link to the bill and the hearing livestream in the comments. Here’s our email. I am...

Please pay attention. “Lawmakers in the Kansas House began laying the groundwork last week for redirecting taxpayer money from public to private schools by holding a two-hour hearing on complaints two parents have with diversity...
