Earlier this week we posted about a multi-article expose on charter schools in Michigan in the Detroit Free Press. Now the Sun Sentinel in Florida is exposing charter exploitation there including financial mismanagement and insufficient academic programs. We note that Florida is often held up as a model for education “reform” including massive expansion of charter schools. This is no model for Kansas. http://interactive.sun-sentinel.com/charter-schools-unsupervised/...

Kansans will protect hometown schools
“The audacity of Merrick continually attacking Kansas teachers, along with Gov. Sam Brownback’s ‘experiment’ that has Kansas in dire financial straits, has gotten the attention of Kansans from Stilwell to Parker and from Liberal to Leavenworth. Kansans know they have good public schools and that good Kansas teachers are, in many instances, the bedrock of their Kansas communities. Leave a Comment State power grab with school funds, districts and banks have reason to worry
We agree with this editorial: “We believe the change has nothing to do with audit trails. It is about giving the appearance that more school funding is coming from the state instead of local property taxpayers. It is about control of education by right-wing Brownback supporters. And it is about punishing school districts and the courts for daring to challenge the legislature’s funding decisions. Given the legislature’s recent financial record and penchant for political revenge and micro-managing education, school districts, banks and property taxpayers all have very good reason to be worried.” http://www.winfieldcourier.com/opinion/editorial/article_86f417f0-fc09-11e3-9c1f-0019bb2963f4.html...
