Some ask why we oppose expansions of Kansas tax credit scholarships and other voucher/neo-voucher bills. Among the reasons is that we have been watching other states for over a decade and once these programs start they get expanded again and again, taking money from public schools despite the data showing that they generally don’t lead to improved outcomes for the students in the programs and often lead to academic losses. How Iowa Pushes Back on Vouchers
Some Iowans have found a clever way to illustrate the fact that Iowa voucher bills don’t include academic standards for schools getting voucher funds. The Kansas tax credit scholarships and the bills to expand them lack standards and accountability provisions and HB 2119 to be heard next week in the House K-12 Education Budget Committee doesn’t require any accreditation at all. Iowa and Kansas are facing a major push to send tax dollars to private schools without imposing standards on those schools.
