We share Mr. Wempe’s apparent frustration that Kansans support public education but continue to elect too many legislators who don’t. We elected a pro-public education governor but our legislature moved slightly backwards. There is more work to do in this session and in the next election. Bullying vouchers a bad idea
“The real purpose of the school bill is evident. It isn’t designed just to protect victims of bullying; instead, it’s intended to introduce the idea of public vouchers for private- and parochial-school tuition costs. “Vouchers are a bad idea. As the House K-12 Education Budget Committee attempts to include a bullying voucher in its school funding bill, we take a look at the tax credit scholarship voucher-in-disguise program already in existence. It appears largely to be the Kansas Subsidizing Religious Education program.
