Testimony needed for SPED bill; late notice for hearing and disregard of SPED task force work

So, remember how Rep. Williams pushed for a SPED task force to study the SPED formula during the 2023 legislative session? Remember how she avoided calling a meeting of the task force until her hand was forced by some of the committee members? Remember how Rep. Williams scheduled the meeting on the last possible day and scheduled only a half-day meeting at that? Remember how the majority of the committee voted to continue to meet either as a task force or a subgroup so they could continue their work? Despite all that, at the end of last week Rep. Williams in the K-12 Education Budget Committee announced a Tuesday hearing for a bill that would create a new SPED funding formula, unvetted by the task force. Spoiler alert-the bill doesn’t increase SPED funding but actually decreases it.

Because of the late notice, we get until 10:30 am the morning after the Super Bowl to submit testimony. If you would like to submit testimony, our friends at Mainstream Coalition have created a form and compiled some information from Six Degrees of Activism about the bill.
