House Leader Compares Funding School Districts to Giving a Child a Car in Debate over Funding Bill

Today in the floor debate on House Sub SB 387 (the Frankenstein education budget/policy bill), Rep. Williams compared the bad policy in the bill to giving a child a car and making them obey rules to keep it-keep grades up, be home by 11, not have more than 3 friends in the car. This sums up the problem. Our teachers and administrators ARE PROFESSIONALS, NOT CHILDREN. Funding is a need, not a privilege. And the legislature is a partner, not a parent. As Rep. Younger explained in his comments, our teachers don’t fear accountability, but districts and students shouldn’t be punished when they can’t control all factors affecting learning/test scores.
