It’s Fact Check Friday! The more you know…

From Kansas Association of School Boards
“FACT CHECK FRIDAY: Since 2009, Legislature Has Directed Most New K-12 Funding Outside the Classroom
While the narrative suggests schools have received dramatic increases in classroom funding, the data shows that most new K-12 funding since FY 2009 has been directed outside flexible, day-to-day classroom operations.
That means nearly 90% of new funding growth went toward mandated programs, pension obligations and property tax relief, leaving just over $1 for flexible classroom and general district expenses.
Understanding where education funding goes matters. The total increase in funding doesn’t tell the full story of what resources are available to support students and meet local district needs.
Know the facts. Understand the funding.
