HB 2119 – Education Savings Account Hearing

After getting an update on CARES Act funding, the House K-12 Education Budget Committee had a hearing on HB 2119, an expansive Education Savings Account bill we oppose. We testified against the bill. Forbes Article Explains the Problems with Education Savings Accounts.

The Kansas House K-12 Education Budget Committee will hold a hearing on HB2119, an ESA bill soon. We strongly oppose this bill. Here’s a good explanation we found in Forbes magazine of some of the issues. “Parents are expected to navigate this unregulated marketplace on their own. ESA bills and laws talk a lot about parent empowerment, but have little to say about providing parents safeguards against fraud and incompetence. House K-12 Education Budget Committee Rejects Amendments That Would Add Accountability Measures

The Kansas House K-12 Education Budget committee rejected proposals meant to strengthen the accountability and inclusivity of the tax credit scholarship program.
